San Pedro de Atacama: Salt Flats Route｜Chile

We'll pick you up from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama at the indicated time to head towards the Andes Mountains, crossing the vast plains of the Chilean highlands.

We'll cover 150 kilometers while having a light breakfast on board and observing the best examples of local flora and fauna through the bus window, until we reach the Licancabur volcano, which acts as a natural border between Chile and Bolivia. Did you know it's over 5,900 meters high?

The cone of this stratovolcano crowns the landscape of the Chilean highlands, where you'll also find highlights like the Quepiaco wetland. It's an extensive plain of endemic vegetation located at the foot of the volcanic mountain range that we'll visit during the tour.

Next, we'll head east and stop so you can take a photo with the Monks of Pakana. These geological formations, shaped by wind erosion, were considered stone sentinels by the ancient cultures that inhabited the highlands.

Feeling hungry? Don't worry, we'll take a break at noon to recharge. Lunch can be en route (includes a main course or a drink) or at a restaurant (includes a main course, a choice of two options, and a drink).

Later, we'll head to the salt flats of Aguas Calientes and Quisquiro, two sites that form extensive white beaches of this chemical compound. The contrast with the Andean mountain range makes these places look like they're from another world. We'll also make a last stop to visit the Black Lagoon. Can you guess why it has that name?

From here, we'll head back to San Pedro de Atacama and drop you off in the town center after a 7- to 8-hour journey.
