Your day starts early, just as the city is still waking up. Around 05:30/6:00, we leave Maputo behind and hit the road, watching the sunrise slowly light up the landscapes ahead. The drive to Eswatini takes about 2.5 hours, crossing through the Namaacha border, and along the way we keep things easy with some snacks and drinks while you enjoy the changing scenery.
As we get closer to Hlane Royal National Park, you’ll already start to feel the shift... quieter, wilder, more connected to nature. Right at the entrance, there’s a good chance you’ll be welcomed by hippos in the water, or even spot rhinos, giraffes, and other animals just hanging around the lake. It’s one of those moments where you realize the adventure has really begun.
Then it’s time for the safari. We hop into the vehicle and head out into the park, driving through open landscapes and bushveld, never quite knowing what’s around the next corner. Hlane is known for being a relaxed, family-friendly park, but still full of incredible wildlife and with a bit of luck, you might spot up to 4 of the Big 5. Every sighting feels special, whether it’s something big and powerful or a quiet moment in nature.
After the safari, we slow things down with a well-deserved lunch at the park’s cozy restaurant, surrounded by nature. Once everyone’s relaxed and recharged, there’s some free time to wander around the entrance area and check out local souvenir shops, take a few more photos, or just sit by the lake and watch the animals in their natural rhythm.
Around 14:00/15:00, we begin our journey back, heading towards Namaacha for a quick stop at the beautiful waterfalls, the perfect moment to slow down and just take in nature at its best. It’s a peaceful little break after an exciting day, with fresh air, flowing water, and great Mozambican views all around.
Then, around 17:00, we continue back to Maputo, carrying with us a day full of wild moments and amazing sights ✨
