Chengdu: Leshan Giant Buddha and Kuanzhai Alley Day Tour｜China

08:30–09:00 Hotel Pick-up
Your English-speaking tour guide will confirm your hotel address one day in advance and provide door-to-door pick-up service (covering all downtown hotels; a designated meeting point will be arranged in advance if you’re staying in the suburbs). After pick-up, you’ll take a private vehicle to Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area (1.5-hour drive). During the journey, the guide will share insights into Leshan’s history, the origin of the Giant Buddha, the day’s itinerary, and highlights of Kuanzhai Alleys to help you get a full overview of the trip.
10:30–13:00 Core Visit to Leshan Giant Buddha
First, explore Lingyun Temple, where the guide will explain its historical connection to the Giant Buddha and the inheritance of Buddhist culture in Leshan, letting you experience the temple’s ancient and solemn architectural style.
Then, descend along the Jiuqu Plank Road to the Buddha’s feet for an up-close view of the 71-meter-tall Giant Buddha (the world’s largest stone-carved Maitreya Buddha, dating back to the Tang Dynasty). The guide will detail its construction techniques that overcame geological challenges and the unique "mountain is a Buddha, Buddha is a mountain" wonder.
Finally, head to the Lingyun Mountain Observation Deck to overlook the full view of the Buddha and the spectacular confluence of the Minjiang, Qingyi, and Dadu rivers. The guide can assist with taking souvenir photos.
13:00–14:00 Free Time for Lunch
The guide will direct you to the dining area near the scenic area’s main entrance, where you’ll have 1 hour to enjoy Leshan’s local specialties at your own choice (we recommend convenient snacks like Qiaojiao Beef or tofu pudding to save time for the rest of the itinerary). Note that the guide only provides location guidance and will not recommend specific restaurants or induce purchases.
14:00–16:00 Transfer to Kuanzhai Alleys
Take the vehicle back to Chengdu and head to Kuanzhai Alleys (2-hour drive).
16:00–18:00 In-depth Tour of Kuanzhai Alleys
Led by the guide, you’ll explore the three core sections:
Wide Alley: Visit the Old Chengdu Life Experience Museum to learn about the traditional lifestyle of old Chengdu through physical exhibits and scene restorations.
Narrow Alley: Discover the design concept of the cluster of cultural and creative shops and feel the blend of traditional lanes and modern creativity.
Well Alley: Admire the folk-custom reliefs on the Cultural Wall, with the guide sharing the historical stories and folk connotations behind them.
You’ll also have 30 minutes of free time to try local experiences (e.g., sipping covered-bowl tea or watching sugar painting, with fees at your own expense). The guide will wait at a designated spot for group regrouping.
18:00–20:00 Return Transfer
Gather and take the vehicle back to your hotel to conclude the tour.
