Each night, the Guru Granth Sahib (holy scripture) is carried in a decorated palanquin from the sanctum, Harmandir Sahib, to the Akal Takht Sahib, accompanied by devotional hymns and traditional music. The ceremony begins after the evening prayer (Rehras Sahib) when the temple is beautifully lit.
