Our Night Hike offers more than just a walk through the desert, it’s a full nocturnal experience. We begin just before sunset, hiking to a scenic vista where the red rocks glow in the fading light and the sky transforms into vivid desert colors. As night falls, we continue into a darker, more remote part of the trail, where the stars shine brighter and the desert truly comes alive. Along the way, we’ll pause to stargaze, identify constellations, and search for signs of nocturnal wildlife like owls, bats, and other nighttime creatures. One of the most exciting parts of the evening is using UV flashlights to find glowing scorpions—an unforgettable glimpse into the desert’s hidden world. What makes this experience even more special is knowing you’re in expert hands. All of our guides are certified Wilderness First Responders (WFR) and skilled in orienteering, making nighttime hiking not only possible, but surprisingly safe. At our summit, we pause to take in Sedona’s incredible night sky. With minimal light pollution, the stars shine bright overhead. Your guide points out constellations and planets with a laser, sharing stories and astronomy highlights that make the experience both magical and memorable.
As the desert cools and the stars come out, we break out UV flashlights for one of the tour’s most surprising moments, scorpion tracking. Under ultraviolet light, these elusive creatures glow a vivid blue-green, revealing themselves in cracks, under rocks, or along the trail. It’s a safe, fascinating way to observe one of the desert’s most iconic nocturnal residents up close, without disturbing their natural behavior.
