Want to explore Hawaii beyond Waikiki? Then it’s definitely worth taking a full day from sunbathing, renting a car, and driving to tour around Oahu.

If you want to have an amazing day and see everything, then all you have to do is start early and spend a full day of sunshine driving all the way around the island. Whichever direction you choose to go around, you will hear all of the commentary and visit all the best locations.

Explore Oahu’s beaches and volcanoes by starting from Waikiki to Diamond Head (reservations required), then continue to southeast highlights like Hanauma Bay (reservations required), Halona Blowhole, and Kailua. You can return to Waikiki via the Pali Lookout, or head to the North Shore, where Oahu's famous surfing beaches and the town of Haleiwa await. Follow the windward side clockwise, or take a shortcut back across the island via the Pali. The Polynesian Cultural Center is another great stop.

It’s also recommended to dedicate at least a half day to Pearl Harbor. Make this its own day trip from Waikiki if you want to pay your respects and explore this still active naval base. Whether you have a half-day or full-day, Oahu offers an unforgettable experience.
