First, see Piazza della Rotonda and the Pantheon's exterior, including the front portico with its 16 granite columns. The piazza itself, the obelisk, the fountain by Giacomo della Porta. Inside, the defining feature is called the Oculus and the source of light that pierces this opening to the sky hits the solar calendar on the ceiling to mark out important dates in the Roman calendar, notably the birth of Rome itself and Romulus its founder. It would be difficult to say that this building is anything less than the most important structure in the eternal city. The end of the tour brings us back in front of the Pantheon itself. There is a taxi stand right there, if needed.
