Ama City Shippo Art Village - Shippo ware making experience (Ama City, Aichi Prefecture)
- This set plan allows you to appreciate masterpieces of cloisonné, which were called the "flower of the World Exposition" during the Meiji period and were highly praised by foreigners, as well as experience making cloisonné.
- You can watch demonstrations by active craftsmen of "Owari Shippo", a traditional craft designated by the country. If the timing is right, you may also be able to hear a talk by a traditional craftsman.
- You can create your own original cloisonné accessory, one of a kind in the world. The instructor, just like the one who will be demonstrating, is a practicing craftsman.
- Shippo ware is a craft in which glass glaze is baked onto a metal base. Because the firing time is short, you can take your creation home on the same day!

Product Info
Experience the beauty and craftsmanship of Owari Shippo, a craft that has a history of approximately 190 years and is designated as a traditional craft of Japan, and even try your hand at a workshop to make cloisonné accessories.
Children from the age of 5 can participate in the workshop.
Despite its ease, the actual work is more difficult than you might expect, but it also allows you to fully enjoy the fun of making things.
If you try making it yourself, you will be able to appreciate the incredible craftsmanship involved.
This special plan will not be held in the usual hands-on workshop, but will take place in the workshop area where artisans demonstrate their skills.
The class is limited to a maximum of four people, allowing you to receive thorough instruction from a craftsman.
In this plan, you can choose to make either a 3cm diameter round brooch or a 1.2cm diameter spoon.
The firing time is very short, so please take a good look. You will be amazed at the color and shine of the glaze that changes in an instant.
The venue varies depending on the plan. Please arrive at the reception desk 10 minutes before your reservation time to receive your ticket.
For the standard plan, you will be asked to choose one item from a menu of multiple items to be made on-site. Actual samples will be available at the reception desk.
The standard plan is held at the Shippo-yaki Experience Workshop. A video with English subtitles and an explanation sheet on how to make it are available (the video can also be viewed on the Shippo-yaki Art Village website).
For the special plan, you can choose from two options: a round brooch or a spoon.
A special plan allows you to view the exhibits with commentary.
With the special plan, you can watch the craftsmen demonstrate the techniques.
This special plan involves a small group cloisonné ware making experience in a demonstration studio.

This plan is available for one person or more. The cloisonné ware making experience is limited to the 1,000 yen menu. If you would like to participate in a different menu, please pay the difference on the day (cash only). You can also check the menu on our website.
[Special Plan]
This plan is for 2 to 4 people. Please note that you cannot participate alone.
- Shippo ware is made from metal. You can experience making cloisonné without touching it directly, but if you have a severe metal allergy, this may not be suitable for you. Please be careful when participating.

Reminders
On the day of your visit, please arrive on time for your reservation. Please make sure to complete the ticket processing at the facility reception before the start time.
Along with the ticket processing, you will also need to apply for the cloisonné ware making experience menu. Please arrive with plenty of time. Please also note that application times vary depending on the menu.
Please note that the facility will be temporarily closed if a storm warning is issued or if other large-scale disasters occur.
There are no staff on-site who can speak foreign languages. We provide multilingual explanation sheets and translation machines, but if you are concerned, please arrange for an interpreter yourself.
Unlike pottery experiences, you will not get dirty when making cloisonné ware, but if you are worried, please bring your own apron or other protective gear.
