Campeche: cochinita pibil, hats, and Mayan cemetery｜Mexico

Explore the Mayan artisan region of Campeche by learning about its burial traditions, tasting buried food, and discovering handicrafts made by hands that are thousands of years old.

The sightseeing tour starts in San Francisco de Campeche at 7:30 a.m. to kick off the day. We'll see the open niches of Pomuch, a town in Campeche where human remains are exhumed to give them life after death. In the village, we'll taste stone oven breads.

Breakfast in the town of Hecelchakán with the traditional buried cochinita pibil. A stroll through the market will be necessary to explore the produce of the day.

Finally, in Becal you will experience the creation of hats. Doña Alberta will guide us to her cave to explain her daily life and the family business that has been going strong for 50 years in the cave under her house.

We'll return to Campeche, or you can decide to stay in Merida city.
