Step into a beautifully atmospheric, candlelit venue in the heart of Gdańsk for an evening of storytelling and world-class music. From the moment you take your seat, you will realize this is not your typical, formal piano recital. Instead, we invite you on a relaxed, engaging musical journey through the life of Poland’s most famous composer, Frédéric Chopin.
The evening unfolds sequentially, tracing Chopin's life through his music:
Early Years: We begin with his earliest compositions, written when he was just seven years old and heavily inspired by vibrant Polish country music and folklore.
The Parisian Period: As the concert progresses, we transition into his time in Paris, where his music takes on a more dramatic, complex, and profound expression, due to the ongoing partition of his beloved home country.
The Final Masterpieces: The journey culminates in highly emotional works from his final years, reflecting his struggles with illness.
During the evening, you will hear a carefully curated selection of Chopin's greatest works, including:
- Mazurkas Op. 24 and 33
- Etudes Op. 10 and 25 (including the famous Revolutionary Etude)
- Polonaise in A major Op. 40
- Ballade in F major
- Nocturne Op. 9 No. 2
- Preludes Op. 28
- Sonata No. 2 (Funeral March)
To give you a complete picture of the piano repertoire of the era, the program also features select, complementary works by other legendary composers who shared the musical landscape, including Robert Schumann, Ludwig van Beethoven, Edvard Grieg, Claude Debussy, W.A. Mozart, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
