Hrauneyjar: 7-Hour Landmannalaugar & Fjallabak Buggy Tour｜Iceland

Set out from Hrauneyjar Highland Center on a seven-hour buggy expedition through Fjallabak and Landmannalaugar, one of Iceland’s most varied highland regions.

Meet your guide at Hrauneyjar, gear up in the provided insulated overall, balaclava, and helmet, and receive a safety briefing. Learn how to operate your fully automatic, road-legal 4x4 buggy before heading into the highlands.

Follow remote mountain roads across volcanic plains and river crossings. The first major stop is Landmannalaugar, known for its colorful rhyolite mountains and steaming geothermal landscape.

Continue deeper into Fjallabak to Eldgjá volcanic canyon. From there, ride south through isolated highland terrain toward Álftavötn, passing lakes, mountain huts, and broad volcanic plains far from the usual sightseeing routes.

Cross the black sands near Mælifell, an emerald-green volcanic cone rising from the dark desert near Mýrdalsjökull. The contrast of green moss, black sand, mountains, and glacier views makes this one of the most memorable parts of the journey.

The route itself is a major part of the experience, with rough tracks, remote valleys, volcanic sands, and changing highland scenery throughout the day. The exact route may change with weather, river levels, and trail conditions.

The experience lasts approximately seven hours and departs at 9:00 AM from Hrauneyjar Highland Center. Please arrive 30 minutes early. The tour operates from June through November, and the minimum participant age is 12. A valid driver’s license is required to drive.

Shared rides normally place two to four guests in one buggy. Select a single ride if you want your own buggy. Pickup and drop-off are not included in this KKday option.
