Discover the wild North of Bohemia, a region shrouded in many legends and long considered mysterious!
Begin with a pickup from your hotel and head to northern Bohemia, a region with the highest concentration of volcanic hills in Europe.
Travel through picturesque villages featuring traditional timber‑framed architecture typical for this area.
A visit to Northern Bohemia wouldn’t be complete without experiencing its world‑famous glassmaking tradition. Czech glassmaking is part of the UNESCO‑listed intangible heritage, and this region is home to some of the oldest glassworks in Europe. You will visit a local glass factory where you can watch traditional production, learn about centuries‑old techniques, and even try blowing glass yourself. Glass from this region has appeared in many international films, including Bridget Jones’s Diary.
Explore the rare phonolite rock moraines on Klíč Hill and, if you wish, hike to its summit.
Next, explore the fascinating 60‑million‑year‑old basalt formation called Panská Skála, known as the Organ. This dramatic natural monument has been featured in numerous films, such as Young Man and the White Whale (1979), Merlin (2011), and many Czech fairy tales.
Continue to a historic brewery founded in 1560, one of the oldest in the country. Enjoy a tour through the brewhouse, fermentation cellar, and lager tanks, where you will learn how traditional Czech beer has been brewed for centuries. As part of the experience, taste five different beer samples, each showcasing a unique style. The brewery also operates its own artisan bakery and confectionery, offering fresh pastries and traditional Czech sweets. A hearty traditional Czech lunch is served directly at the brewery.
After lunch, visit the medieval rock castle Sloup, carved into 100‑million‑year‑old deposits of prehistoric seas. The fairy tale The Little Mermaid and many others were filmed here. (From November 1 to March 31, the castle interior is not accessible. In April and October, it is only open on weekends.)
You will also see a unique rock theater carved into a sandstone overhang, which is still used today for cultural events and performances, preserving a centuries‑old tradition of open‑air storytelling.
Finally, explore a chapel carved into red sandstone, hidden in the surrounding forest, long regarded as a pilgrimage and spiritual place where people have come for generations to seek peace, reflection, and quiet connection with nature.
After the excursion, return to your hotel.
The trip includes moderate hiking on forest trails. The ascent to Klíč Hill is optional.
