Haarmann's story reached its climax in 1924 and gained international attention when people discovered that he had killed at least 24 citizens of Hannover. ‘The Butcher of Hannover’ is only one of the many nicknames given to this cruel murderer. The Haarmann case was heavily politicised and shaped the history of Germany as a whole.
