The activity starts at our offices, where you must check in with the tour guide(s) in charge of the group upon arrival. There is a station with coffee, juice, cookies and water for you to enjoy while the group gathers. Then, the tour guide will give a talk with the most important details of the activity and instructions.
From the meeting point, we will travel in your own vehicles (if you don't have a vehicle, we will take you to the entrance of the Ballena Marine Park, where we will take the boat). We have secure parking for your vehicles near the entrance to Playa Uvita.
Departing from Playa Uvita, the boat ride from the start point to Isla del Caño takes about 90 minutes, with the possibility of dolphin watching and, hopefully, humpback whale watching in season (January-April). Upon arrival at the island, we will prepare the snorkel gear to start the adventure and explore the different snorkel spots. The snorkeling time will be 2 hours, divided into different spots to make the most of the time and enjoy the marine life offered by the reefs of this biological reserve.
The tour guide, with his extensive experience as a naturalist, will provide you with information and knowledge about the nature that can be observed, as well as important details about the history surrounding Isla del Caño, which in the past was a place of refuge and sacred to indigenous peoples of Costa Rica and hosts a great cultural and historical record and world cultural heritage.
As it is a protected area and a biological reserve, the measures and protocols must be followed. It is therefore important to mention that life jackets must be worn at all times during the snorkeling activity (this is non-negotiable), since the park rangers will be checking at all times that the established protocols are being followed in order to carry out the activity. In this case, the tour guide will provide you with the correct information on how to use the vest for snorkeling.
After the snorkeling activity, there will be a picnic lunch on a nearby beach on the coast, since food is not allowed on the island and it is inconvenient to prepare lunch for the group on the boat. For greater convenience, we therefore do it on a nearby beach.
The activity ends when you return to the same point where you boarded the boat at Playa Uvita.
