Freedom Monument: Standing at 42 metres tall, this monument was built to honour the soldiers killed in the Latvian War of Independence
Vermanes Garden: Donated to the city by a Prussian widow in the 1810's, it boasts formal gardens and exotic trees, and is a great place to stop and have a coffee at one of the seasonal cafes
Powder Tower: Built as part of Riga's defence system in 1650, the tower is named because it was where the city's stash of gunpowder was stored. As well as storing weaponry, the historic tower was also used as a prison and torture chamber

Highlights on the Blue Line:
Art Nouveau District: Featuring many wonderful Art Nouveau apartment buildings, this area was built at the start of the 20th century. With a third of the buildings being Art Nouveau in style, Riga has a higher concentration of this distinctive architecture than anywhere else in the world
President's Castle: Be sure to hop-off at this impressive medieval castle. Construction began all the way back in 1330, and is now the home of the President of Latvia
Central Market: Visit this impressively resilient market which has lived through many ups and downs since 1930. Situated in Riga's Moscow suburb, it's a must see!
