Sichuan panda cubs are very light at birth, typically weighing only 80 to 200 grams, which is about one-thousandth of an adult panda's weight. At this stage, they are born hairless, with closed eyes, and are extremely fragile. They require meticulous care from their mothers or keepers to grow. Panda bases provide professional rearing environments and medical support to ensure the cubs' health.
During the Sichuan panda keeper experience, you can personally participate in several panda care tasks. This includes making panda's favorite 'Qingtuan' or other snacks with your own hands, and assisting in cleaning the panda enclosures to provide them with a clean and comfortable living environment. Additionally, you can observe closely how keepers conduct daily health checks and behavioral training, gaining a deeper understanding of the pandas' daily lives.
Panda 'Qingtuan' is a nutritious staple food, primarily made from a mixture of corn flour, rice flour, soybean flour, eggs, and bamboo leaf fiber, then formed by steaming or baking. The finished Qingtuan usually has a fresh aroma of grains and bamboo leaves and does not have an unpleasant odor. They consume a large amount of bamboo daily, supplemented with Qingtuan for essential nutrition.
Although Sichuan pandas are known for their docile and cute appearance, they possess a certain level of intelligence. They can learn simple commands and solve problems, such as using tools to get food. Behaviorally, pandas are usually solitary. Their main daytime activities are eating and resting, and their movements are relatively slow. They enjoy climbing and are adept at finding comfortable sleeping spots in trees. They also communicate through their sense of smell.
Several transportation methods are recommended for traveling from Chengdu city center to Sichuan Panda Bases. You can opt for direct buses, departing from Chadianzi Bus Station or Xinnanmen Bus Station, which take about 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the Dujiangyan Base. A more convenient option is to book a private charter service, especially if your itinerary includes multiple attractions, as it offers flexibility and comfort. Private car pick-up and drop-off services can save you the hassle of planning your own transportation, departing directly from your city center hotel.
Sichuan Panda Bases are committed to providing pandas with living spaces that simulate their natural, wild environment. The bases are planted with large bamboo forests, creating abundant vegetation cover, and are equipped with natural facilities such as streams, ponds, earth slopes, and wooden climbing structures, allowing pandas to forage, play, and rest. These designs aim to meet the pandas' physiological and behavioral needs, helping them maintain their natural habits and health.
During the Sichuan Panda Keeper Experience, various close-up interactions are possible. However, to ensure the pandas' health and safety, direct hugging is prohibited. Interaction methods primarily include observing pandas eating and playing from a safe distance, making food for them with your own hands, and assisting keepers in cleaning their environment. Through these activities, you can gain an understanding of the pandas' behavioral patterns and living habits from up close, and experience their cuteness.
