The highest altitude on this route is 3275m. Please make sure you are physically fit for mountain riding.
Decreased ambient air pressure: The air is thin, reducing the efficiency of oxygen exchange in the lungs and causing a decrease in arterial oxygen levels. When engaging in activities at high altitudes, please slow down your pace, take deep breaths, and pay close attention to your body's reactions.
High altitude symptoms include vomiting, dizziness, headache, slow reaction, and in severe cases, pulmonary edema or cerebral edema. Therefore, those in serious condition should be quickly transported down the mountain.
The temperature difference in the high-altitude climate is large, so please prepare warm clothing and take precautions against the cold.
The mountain roads are narrow, and to ensure a smooth rescue operation, the supply vehicle will remain at the back of the team and proceed in a fixed manner. Riders are advised to bring their own warm coats, water, and food.
Public toilet facilities are lacking in mountainous areas, so please pay attention to the availability of sanitation facilities at each rest stop.
E+Bikes (electric-assist bicycles) in Taiwan are generally considered bicycles if their motor assistance cuts off at 25 km/h and they have a maximum continuous rated power of 250W. For the 群山之島 tour, you'll be using professionally maintained E+Bikes that comply with local regulations, ensuring a legal and safe riding experience on all designated routes, including scenic roads towards Bùyàntíng and high mountain passes like Wuling.
The E+Bikes provided for the 群山之島 tour significantly reduce pedaling effort, especially on challenging ascents such as the Taipingshan Scenic Road and the climb to Wuling. While you still need to pedal to activate the motor assist, the electric motor amplifies your power, making steep climbs more manageable and enjoyable. This allows riders of varying fitness levels to conquer significant elevations.
The 4-day 3-night 群山之島 tour is structured to balance challenging climbs with scenic rides. Daily distances vary, generally ranging from 50 to 80 kilometers, with cycling durations between 4 to 6 hours, including stops. For example, the Yilan An'nong River Cycling Path offers a flatter, more relaxed segment compared to mountain ascents, allowing for varied pacing throughout the journey. The itinerary is carefully planned for manageable daily segments.
While E+Bikes provide significant assistance, participants should have a reasonable level of cycling fitness and endurance for the 群山之島 tour. The tour involves multi-day riding with sustained climbs, notably the ascent to Wuling, which is Taiwan's highest road pass. Regular cycling or aerobic exercise leading up to the tour is recommended to fully enjoy the experience and manage the physical demands.
Safety is paramount for the 群山之島 tour. Participants receive pre-tour briefings on E+Bike operation and road safety. The tour includes support vehicles for assistance and luggage transport, and experienced guides lead the group, ensuring proper pacing and navigation. Tips for injury prevention, such as maintaining proper riding posture and taking regular breaks, are emphasized, especially on winding and ascending sections like Siyuan Pass.
The 群山之島 tour is designed with strategic support to help cyclists navigate challenging sections. E+Bikes provide crucial assistance for climbs, reducing physical strain. The tour includes rest stops, hydration, and nutrition support. Guides monitor progress and can offer encouragement or suggest alternative options if a participant is struggling. Support vehicles are available to assist riders who need a break, ensuring everyone can experience the journey to Wuling.
Using an E+Bike on the 群山之島 tour transforms the experience of conquering Taiwan's diverse terrains. It allows riders to fully immerse themselves in the stunning landscapes, such as the high-mountain fruit orchards of Lishan and the rugged beauty around Dayuling, without being overly exhausted by the climbs. The electric assist enables cyclists to maintain a comfortable pace, appreciate the views, and enjoy challenging routes that might otherwise be inaccessible to many.
Participants on the 群山之島 tour can expect comprehensive support and seamless logistics. This includes high-quality E+Bikes, professional cycling guides, and a support vehicle for luggage transfer and emergencies. Accommodations and most meals are arranged, allowing riders to focus solely on the cycling experience. The tour concludes with convenient transportation back to Taichung HSR station after reaching Wuling, ensuring a well-organized and worry-free journey from start to finish.
