From a sumo experience to watching a sumo match at Ryogoku Kokugikan, you can fully experience the charm of sumo in one day.
In the morning, we had a sumo experience at the "Asahifuji Dojo," supervised by the 63rd Yokozuna, Oyakata Asahifuji.
Why not experience the real world of sumo wrestlers in a space that was once used as a sumo stable (the former Isegahama stable)?
You can enter the sumo ring with former top-division sumo wrestlers and experience the basics of sumo, such as leg stomping, sliding footwork, and sparring practice.
After your sumo experience, you'll enjoy a meal including chanko-nabe (a type of hot pot dish) that actual sumo wrestlers eat.
In the afternoon, we'll watch a Grand Sumo Tournament (an exciting live match!). We've secured hard-to-get tickets for the Tokyo tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan!
Please pick up your tickets from staff in front of Ryogoku Kokugikan. Ticket collection hours are from 12:00 to 15:00.
Re-entry is permitted after admission to Ryogoku Kokugikan. You can go out for a meal or shopping during your visit. Please return to the venue by 5 PM.
Asahifuji Sumo Dojo (Training & Meal Experience) ~Experience the Life of a Sumo Wrestler in Real Life~
This is the traditional dojo where the 63rd Yokozuna, Asahifuji, trained his disciples for 33 years. Here, four Yokozuna and more than ten Sekitori trained and sweated it out. You can experience training and matches with sumo wrestlers in an authentic training hall that was actually used in the past.
Sumo, Japan's national sport, has a history of 1500 years, but in that history, only 75 have become Yokozuna. Of the approximately 1000 sumo wrestlers, only 70 are Sekitori.
We offer a precious experience where you can stand on such a special sumo ring and interact with sumo wrestlers.
After training, enjoy a special moment savoring "chanko nabe," the source of sumo wrestlers' strength.
Enjoy a one-of-a-kind sumo experience, found nowhere else in the world.
"Dohyo-iri" (The Juryo ring-entering ceremony takes place around 2:15 PM and the Makuuchi ring-entering ceremony around 3:40 PM, except on the final day)
This is a ceremony held before the sumo matches in which the Juryo and Makuuchi wrestlers, wearing colorful ceremonial aprons, step onto the sumo ring. It serves as an introduction to the audience and also has the meaning of warding off evil spirits from the arena as a Shinto ritual. The wrestlers appear in two groups, East and West, and step onto the ring in order of their rank, lining up in a circle and performing prescribed actions such as pinching and lifting the ends of their ceremonial aprons and lightly joining their hands. It is a very impressive moment to watch.
"Nobori Flags"
Nobori are brightly colored flags bearing the names of sumo wrestlers, their stables, sponsors, and so on. They are lined up outside the venue, adding to the festive atmosphere and serving as auspicious symbols to pray for the wrestlers' success.
Hailing from Mongolia, Toyoshoryu is known as the nephew of former Yokozuna Asashoryu. However, he has steadily climbed the ranks through his own merit, without relying on the name of his prestigious family.
His strengths lie in his speed, sharp reflexes, and the ability to decide a match in an instant. He skillfully uses changes in pace and surprises his opponents with unexpected attacks, quickly seizing control of the match.
His greatest appeal is his aggressive sumo style, always moving forward regardless of the situation. Even when at a disadvantage, he possesses a strong will to seize an opportunity to win and has the mental toughness to perform at his best when it matters most.
In championship races and major matches, his mental strength and adaptability have produced numerous memorable bouts, captivating spectators. Having risen to the rank of Yokozuna through hard work and skill, he is one of the most watched sumo wrestlers today.
Yokozuna "Ōnosato" hails from Ishikawa Prefecture. He continues to inspire many people affected by the earthquake and is currently the most powerful sumo wrestler, having set numerous speed records. With his hair styled in a messy, unstyled manner, he has climbed the ranks, and in the May 2024 tournament, he achieved a new record by winning the top division championship in just seven tournaments since his debut. Subsequently, in the May 2025 tournament, he achieved his fourth championship, becoming the fastest Japanese-born sumo wrestler to be promoted to Yokozuna since his stablemaster, Nishonoseki Oyakata (former Yokozuna Kisenosato), making him a truly unique wrestler.
Ozeki Ansei Nishiki, originally from Ukraine, is a remarkable sumo wrestler possessing both strength and skillful technique.
His journey from a foreign land to Japan, where he underwent rigorous training to rise to the rank of Ozeki, has inspired many.
With his stable fighting style and calm judgment, he dominates the ring, captivating audiences with his powerful and fast-paced sumo.
While upholding tradition, he embodies international appeal, attracting attention from around the world.
Please come and experience the passion and fighting spirit poured into each and every match at the venue.
