Travel between Wellington and Picton with ease and comfort as you board the Interislander Ferry. Book your tickets in advance and choose your departure time as the ferry crosses the Northern and Southern Islands eleven times per day. Enjoy a wonderful scenic cruise across the Cook Strait, or choose to stay inside the ship and gain access to its many premium amenities. Catch your favorite movies at the state-of-the-art cinema, visit the gift shops for souvenirs and postcards, and enjoy entertaining shows, perfect for the whole family. Opt for the Premium Plus package for additional Wi-Fi, food, and beverages.
The Interislander Ferry operates two ships: the Kaitaki (holds up to 1,600 passengers), and the Aretere (holds up to 350 passengers). Take your vehicles, kayaks, bicycles, and all your items with you safely as you book a separate ferry ticket for them.

- Infants (under 2 years of age) may travel free of charge
- PWD toilets are available in the departure terminal
- The Kaitaki vessel sailings connect with the KiwiRail Coastal Pacific train; luggage transfers are available
- Hand Baggage:
- Small hand baggage can be taken on board vessels as personal hand luggage
- Coin-operated lockers are available onboard for the storage of these small items - Checked-in Baggage:
- Larger baggage, including backpacks, must be checked in at the Wellington or Picton terminals. Baggage can then be collected from the carousels at the port of arrival
- Individual baggage items must not exceed 32 kilograms in weight or 200 linear centimeters (height and length and width) in dimension
- The luggage allowance is two (2) items of baggage per person - Excess Luggage Charges:
- Additional items (subject to weight and size restrictions) will be carried, subject to availability, at a cost of NZ$5 per item - Vehicles:
- Vehicles will not be carried unless accompanied by a driver. Trailers or caravans will not be carried unless towed by another vehicle
- The operator may reassess the type, size, and weight of any vehicle at check-in and make changes to the fare charged
- Any increase in fare must be paid before the vehicle is loaded
- Carriage of a vehicle may be refused if Interislander considers it to be insecurely loaded, or otherwise unsafe for carriage - You will need to reconfirm at least 72 hours in advance. Please note all sailings are subject to availability. Details of how to confirm will be on your voucher
