Lanckorona doesn’t advertise itself. There’s no billboard on the main road, no queue at the entrance, no entrance at all, just a turn-off that most people drive past without a second thought. That’s exactly the point.

Forty-five minutes south of Kraków, the village sits on a hill above the Małopolska countryside, looking much the same as it did a hundred years ago. Wooden houses line a cobbled square that tilts gently downhill. Balconies overhang the lane. Cats cross in front of you. Nobody is in a hurry, and after ten minutes, neither are you.

We take a slow walk through the old town, not a guided lecture, more of a wander with context. Who lived here, what they did, why the village survived when so many others didn’t. Lanckorona has a quiet history worth knowing, and it changes how you see the place. Optional, we can also visit a cute museum with miniatures, local crafts and everyday objects from the past used in the village.

From the village, a short path leads up through the trees to the remains of a 14th-century royal castle. Twenty, thirty minutes of easy walking, nothing strenuous, but the views at the top earn it. The Beskidy Mountains spread out in front of you, and the noise of everyday life stays at the bottom of the hill.

Lunch is at a pre-war wooden guest house that feels like it belongs to a different era. The food is traditional, unhurried, and made properly. We sit together, eat well, and talk about what we saw. It’s the kind of meal that turns a half-day trip into something you actually remember.

We spend some time relaxing in the beautiful garden of the villa before heading back to Kraków by early afternoon. Simple, flexible, unpolished, and far from the crowds.
