Begin your adventure with a drive from Marrakesh to Oukaimeden. From there, hike up to the summit of Mount Oukaimeden at 3,262 meters, where you get views across the High Atlas plateau. Continue through alpine terrain down to Oussertek village. Plan for about 5-6 hours of walking today.
On day 2, walk the old mule paths that wind through quiet valleys, passing by terraced fields and walnut groves along the way. Pass through small villages as you head from Oussertek to Matat, and get good exposure to the local culture and how people live in this region. The walk takes around 4-5 hours.
On day 3, follow trails that run alongside the river through the Azzaden Valley, where waterfalls and dramatic canyon walls make up the landscape. The terrain here is quite varied as you make your way to Tizi Oussem, a traditional village where you'll stop for the night. This section also takes about 4-5 hours of walking.
On day 4, climb up to Tizi Mzik Pass at 2,489 meters, and from there you can see the Toubkal massif in the distance. After crossing the pass, the route descends into Imlil Valley, which serves as your base for the final portions of the trek. Expect around 5-6 hours of walking.
On day 5, starting in Imlil, trek through Aroumd and then to Sidi Chamharouch, gradually gaining elevation as you move through rocky alpine landscapes. The destination is Toubkal Refuge at 3,207 meters, which gets you positioned for the summit attempt tomorrow. This section takes about 5-6 hours of walking.
On day 6, start early to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4,167 meters, North Africa's highest peak, in the morning hours. After reaching the top, head back down to the refuge and then continue down to Imlil. This is the hardest day with approximately 8-9 hours of walking.
On day 7, trek to the Imlil waterfalls in the morning and explore the valley scenery around the village. After a traditional lunch in Imlil, drive back to Marrakesh, which takes about 1.5 hours. This concludes your trek.
