Gulf Dunes Tourism presents the only dedicated Friday Race Day VIP experience on KKday, designed to give you exclusive behind-the-scenes access and an authentic immersion into one of Arabia's oldest and most fascinating traditions.

Professional camel racing began in Qatar in 1972, and Al Shahaniya is where domestic and international tournaments take place every Friday from October to February, with major events such as HH the Emir's Main Race held in March and April. This is not a staged tourist show — the races are a multi-million dollar sport, very much part of Qatar culture.

Your adventure begins with an early morning hotel pickup anywhere in Doha in a fully air-conditioned Toyota Land Cruiser. Your expert cultural guide drives you west to Al Shahaniya, sharing fascinating stories about the history, culture, and traditions of camel racing in Qatar along the way.

Upon arrival, your guide takes you behind the scenes at the start line, where you witness the extraordinary sight of remote-controlled, toddler-sized robot jockeys clothed in colourful racing silks being prepared and mounted on the camels. Your guide explains the technology, the training routines, and the multi-million dollar world of competitive camel racing in Qatar — knowledge that most tourists never get to experience.

The highlight of the experience is driving alongside the racing camels on the parallel track road in your private Land Cruiser, watching owners and trainers follow alongside the track using remote controls to guide their robot jockeys — an incredible fusion of ancient tradition and cutting-edge technology. Camels race at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour, and seeing these magnificent animals thunder past at full speed from inside a moving vehicle is an unforgettable experience.

After the races, your guide takes you to a traditional Majlis tent for a relaxing break with Arabic coffee, dates, and karak tea — the perfect way to absorb and reflect on the extraordinary morning you have just experienced. Before returning to Doha, your tour includes a brief stop at a camel farm where you can get up close to racing camels, learn about their care and diet, and take photographs with these magnificent animals.
