Product Info

Embark on a 1-day hike to the summit of Mount Bisoke in Volcanoes National Park. Admire the beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and the largest crater lake of the Virunga Mountain Range.

Start your adventure with a pickup from your hotel in Kigali and head to the park headquarters in Kinigi. From there, drive to the starting point of the trek.

Begin your hike to the summit of Mount Bisoke, which stands at 3,711 meters. The mountain has the typical conic shape of a “perfect” volcano and in its crater lies a deep crater lake. The high elevation demands extra strength of climbers and the whole excursion can take between 5 hours and the whole day depending on the speed of the walk and the frequency of stops. The ascent typically takes around 3 hours.

During the climb, cross a series of different vegetation habitats starting with bamboo forests, then moving into Hagenia – Hypericum forest and finally moving through Senecio – Lobelia bush near the summit. After the hike, return to the park headquarters and drive back to Kigali.
