Experience the tranquillity of the Alappuzha ( Alleppey ) backwaters on a private guided tour in a Houseboat, Shikkara or Water Bus. We will pick you up from hotels/home stays in Cochin or Cochin Port and will be dropped back.
Cruise through the backwaters and the famous Vembanadu Lake, flanked by paddy fields and villages of rice farmers lying below sea level.
Be picked up from your Hotel/ Resort or Cochin Port in a car/ Suv/Van and transfer you to Alappuzha. On reaching Alappuzha board a House Boat, Shikkara Boat, Water Bus or a Punting Country Boat according to the option you choose. Then start the tour in Alappuzha backwaters. The cruise in Houseboat, Shikkara or Water Bus or just cross a narrow canal and explore the backwaters, interior villages and life of the people... which is kept in stock many shocks and surprises. Houseboats once were spice boats or rice boats which used to carry black pepper, ginger, cardamom, cloves, turmeric, and later cashew nuts, tea coffee, rice, rubber and coir. The spice boats now innovated into luxury houseboats for hosting tourists from world over.
Shikara Boats less luxury than houseboats are well furnished with comfortable seating and a Diwan to lay down and stretch. Water Buses are meant for the Villagers and Tourists to travel to different villages. Water Bus option is incredibly cheap.
We are using private House Boats and Shikkara boats you can decide to stop by any attraction or strange way of life of people there...or just enjoy a walk along the paddy fields to drench in cool breeze around. Cruise in Houseboat or in Shikkara Boat will be for 3 hours into the rivers, rivulets, and the famous Vembanadu Lake, flanked by paddy fields and villages of rice farmers lying below sea level.
In water bus we enjoy a cruise for 3 hours with same ambience and get down at the final stop and commute back in public bus to Alappuzha where our car is waiting.
The punting country boats are not much to see around but we have one for you.
The boatman takes you across a narrow canal punting 15 minutes. Then we are on foot to walk the village. We have chosen time for this walk to start at 9 00 am, less humid and cool. Many surprises and cultural shocks wait for you. The friendliest villages always smile at you. We observe villagers engaged in Fishing, Rice Farming, Boat Building, taking part in rituals in temples, or attending a marriage ceremony etc. etc. After a walk of about 2 hours we reach the other side of the village and wait for the water bus. Now this is another experience, travel in Water Bus to Alappuzha where in our car we travel back.
