Immerse yourself in the Japanese tea ceremony, a tradition rooted in Zen Buddhism and celebrated in Kyoto. In the art of preparing matcha (powdered green tea), every mindful gesture carries deep significance. Your host, Rie, a Kyoto native, is a second-degree instructor of the Urasenke School of tea ceremony. In 2015, she founded her own tea ceremony business to share the beauty of this traditional culture.Savor organic Uji matcha prepared by Rie before enjoying a hands-on tea-making lesson and a traditional Japanese sweet. For deeper cultural immersion, wear a classic kimono during the experience, reflecting the elegance and traditions of the tea ceremony. The kimono is worn only for the session and returned before you leave.

The experience features the tea ceremony, tasting, brewing, and kimono-wearing package.

Reminders

  • Please refer to your voucher for final information regarding meeting points, pick-up locations, and pick-up time

  • Meeting point description: Meet your host at Tea Ceremony Koto, a 1-minute walk from Kinkakuji-michi city bus stop. More details and a Google Maps link will be provided upon booking. Please arrive 20 minutes before the start time of the tea ceremony to dress in a kimono. Note that if you arrive late you won't be able to wear the kimono, and no refund will be provided.(37 Kinugasanishi Goshonouchichō, Kita Ward, Kyoto, Japan)

  • Know in advance:This is a shared experience

  • The kimono rental is for use only within the teahouse venue and cannot be worn outside

  • The kimono rental does not include any hair arrangement service
