From the nationally designated Important Cultural Property Yachiyoza Theater and the skin-beautifying waters of Yamaga Onsen to ancient burial mounds brimming with historical romance, visitors can immerse themselves in Japan’s traditions and history while enjoying the town’s nostalgic atmosphere. 

The direct shuttle from Aso Kumamoto Airport offers a smooth, transfer-free ride, and with unlimited rides for the entire day, travelers can explore the area freely with a flexible itinerary.

[Buzen Kaido] The Buzen Kaido runs north to south through Yamaga, a hot spring resort since ancient times. During the Edo period, it flourished as a route for daimyo's alternate attendance system, and even today, traces of that time remain in the townscape. Enjoy a stroll along the road, which has a retro atmosphere lined with traditional buildings such as the Yachiyoza Theater and a white-walled sake brewery, and shops that have been converted from old merchant houses. We also recommend sampling the cafes and sweets on your way. In the center of town, you'll find Sakurayu, one of Kyushu's largest wooden public baths, and a footbath plaza, where you can relax and enjoy a soak.
