－ Tour Introduction －

・Kyoto Rakunan
The Rakunan region of Kyoto is a representative production area for sake and tea, with the Uji area being particularly well-known. Uji is also the historical setting for the moving stories in the classic 'The Tale of Genji', and is home to two World Heritage sites. The gentle flow of the Uji River has nurtured this famous tea region. While visiting, you can leisurely enjoy Uji tea and various Kyoto sweets in old-fashioned teahouses.

・Daigo-ji Temple
Daigo-ji Temple covers a vast area, with the entire mountain considered part of the temple grounds, featuring over 80 temple buildings. The site is generally divided into Upper Daigo and Lower Daigo. It includes Kyoto's oldest five-story pagoda, the Nidaimon Gate, the Kondo Hall, the Bentendo Hall, the Kannon-do Hall, and the Nyoin-do Hall. Nearly 1,000 cherry trees are planted within the temple grounds. In addition to the Yae-zakura (double-flowered cherry blossoms) familiar to many, there are Somei Yoshino, mountain cherry, and weeping cherry trees. The famous 'Daigo Hanami' (cherry blossom viewing party) hosted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi was held here.

・Byodo-in Temple
Built in 1052, Byodo-in Temple was originally a villa for the Heian-period aristocrat Fujiwara no Michinaga before being converted into a temple. The most iconic structure is the Amida-do Hall, commonly known as the 'Phoenix Hall'. Its image is engraved on the 10-yen coin, and the pair of phoenixes on its roof is featured on the 10,000-yen banknote, reflecting its high status in the hearts of the Japanese people. Beyond the symmetrical architecture and its reflection in the water, the Pure Land-style garden is a must-see, especially when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom from late March to early April. Rows of cherry trees surround the Aji-ike Pond, offering views of various types of blossoms, including weeping, Somei Yoshino, and mountain cherry trees.

・Keage Incline
Located near Nanzen-ji Temple in Kyoto, the 'Keage Incline' was built in 1890 to assist in transporting goods along the Lake Biwa Canal. It spans 582 meters with a 36-meter elevation change, forming a steep slope, hence the name 'Incline'. This railway was originally part of the Kyoto City Tram Keage Line and was fully decommissioned in 1965 when the Kyoto subway opened. The tracks are lined with lush Yoshino cherry trees. Every spring during the cherry blossom season, the scene of the abandoned old railway contrasting with the blooming flowers attracts many visitors.
