【Departing from Nagoya】Kamikochi Classic One-Day Tour: Easily explore the hidden mountain paradise of Kamikochi, known as the "Jiuzhaigou of Japan." No complicated transportation arrangements are needed. Enjoy stunning natural scenery such as Taisho Pond, Kappa Bridge, and Myojin area in one day. Suitable for first-time visitors to Japan, families, and nature lovers.
We will depart from Nagoya in the early morning and head to Kamikochi in the Chubu Sangaku National Park in Nagano Prefecture. We will then embark on a hiking trip along the Azusa River, immersing ourselves in the clear streams and magnificent mountain scenery, and experiencing the tranquility and purity of Japan's pristine nature.
Upon arrival, visitors are free to choose their hiking route. For first-time visitors, the easy route from Taisho Pond to Kappa Bridge is recommended, offering views of Tashiro Pond Wetlands and the iconic Kappa Bridge along the way. Those with more energy can also visit Myojin Bridge and the Okumiya area of Hotaka Shrine for a more tranquil experience of the mountain forest and natural ecology.
The itinerary will include visits to the Taisho Pond, a hidden gem reflecting the volcanic landscape; the Kappa Bridge, a symbolic landmark on the high plateau; and the Myojin Pond, known as a sacred site, as well as the Okumiya Shrine of Hotaka Shrine. Visitors will experience the unique atmosphere where nature and faith intertwine, and will have the opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of the Hotaka Mountain Range and the magnificent Yagamitake Peak.
After the tour, we will gather and return to Nagoya, concluding a fulfilling day trip to nature.
Kamikochi: Kamikochi is a popular summer resort located in the upper reaches of the Azusa River in the southern part of the Hida Mountains in western Nagano Prefecture, Japan. It has hot springs and serves as a base for climbing Mount Hotaka and Mount Yagaya.
Taisho Pond: A volcanic lake formed by the eruption of Yaedake. The "dead trees" in the lake present different dreamlike scenes depending on the season and time of day.
Tashiro Pond: It is a shallow wetland where the new greenery in May, the yellow leaves in October, and the thin ice in late autumn are all breathtaking sights.
Kappa Bridge: A symbolic landmark of Kamikochi, it's a 5-minute walk from the bus terminal. From the bridge, you can see the peaks of the Hodaka mountain range, Mount Yagami, and the Azusa River. It attracts numerous tourists from both Japan and abroad during the May holidays, summer vacation, and autumn foliage season.
Myojin Pond: It takes about 60 minutes to walk from Kappa Bridge along the upper reaches of the Azusa River to Myojin Pond. This area is known as the sacred ground of the inner shrine of Hodaka Shrine. Various wild plants and birds create a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for immersing oneself in the serenity of nature. The view of Mount Myojin from Myojin Bridge is also spectacular, attracting many photography enthusiasts.
The Hodaka Mountain Range: Visible from various viewpoints in Kamikochi, the Hodaka Mountain Range is an integral part of the region. Among them, Mount Oku-Hotaka is the third highest peak in Japan. It is known as one of the "100 Famous Mountains of Japan," one of the "New 100 Famous Mountains of Japan," and one of the "100 Famous Mountains of Flowers."
Hotaka Shrine's Okumiya features a rest area called "Kamonji's Hut," boasting a long history dating back to 1880. Enjoying freshly cooked rockfish while gathered around a traditional hearth is sure to make you forget all about home.
Yakedake: The only active volcano in the Northern Alps. Its majestic form can be seen from places like Taisho Pond in the Kamikochi Plain and Kappa Bridge. The mountain is perpetually emitting white smoke, a constant reminder that it is still "breathing." In autumn, when the leaves turn red, the volcano and the valley create a breathtaking tapestry of colors.

Because Shangkoji is located in a high-altitude, mountainous region at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters, the temperature is not very stable and the weather is unpredictable. It is recommended to choose comfortable and lightweight sneakers, a raincoat, an umbrella, a hat, sunglasses, and bring a jacket to wear as needed depending on the temperature that day.
In June, midday temperatures in Kamikochi typically rise to 12-17 degrees Celsius. Long-sleeved shirts or sweaters are recommended. On cloudy or rainy days, temperatures tend to be below average. In July and August, midday temperatures in Kamikochi typically rise to 18-22 degrees Celsius. In September, midday temperatures typically rise to 14-18 degrees Celsius. In October, midday temperatures typically rise to 10-13 degrees Celsius. Snow is possible after mid-October. Sweaters and coats are recommended.
If the roads leading to Kamikochi are closed, the trip will be changed to a free hike in the mountains, and the return trip will be 2 hours earlier than expected.
If there is traffic congestion, the return time may be delayed.
The vehicle type will be adjusted according to the number of participants. For smaller vehicles, the driver will also act as the tour guide. The driver will not get out of the vehicle to accompany and explain the content. We appreciate your understanding.
