From Strasbourg, head off on a winter getaway to Obernai, a charming wine town nestled at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile, where the Christmas spirit comes to life with authenticity. As soon as you arrive, you'll be immersed in a magical atmosphere in the heart of the historic center, beautifully decorated with light garlands, ornate fir trees, and traditional wooden chalets. Obernai's Christmas market is known for its authentic and intimate character, far from the crowds of big cities, and invites you to stroll through its alleys to meet local artisans and their unique creations: Christmas decorations, wooden toys, scented candles, and local products.
What makes this market particularly typical is its strong gourmet identity. On every street corner, the scents of cinnamon, cloves, and orange awaken your senses. You can savor Alsatian specialties like gingerbread, bredele, or tarte flambée, but also discover the famous white mulled wine, served here in large cast iron cauldrons, as per local tradition. This drink, made with white wine from Alsace and a subtle blend of spices, will warm your heart while letting you taste the very soul of Alsace. A stop in front of the Saints-Pierre-et-Paul church or in the courtyard of the Tourist Office, often featuring exhibitions on Christmas traditions, will end this enchanting interlude.
