Escape the crowds with a private, professionally guided hiking day at Lake O'Hara, one of the most coveted destinations in Yoho National Park. Access to this turquoise alpine lake is tightly restricted by Parks Canada, and most visitors rely on a public lottery for a shuttle seat. As an authorized commercial operator, we hold pre-secured bus permits for the season — you book your preferred dates with us in advance, and on April 1st we secure your shuttle access, targeting your chosen dates as closely as possible (occasionally shifting 1–2 days earlier or later). If the confirmed date doesn't work for you, you'll receive a full refund. This gives you a far more reliable path to Lake O'Hara than the random public draw.
Your day begins with the Parks Canada shuttle bus — the only permitted way into the valley, and shared with other park visitors — carrying you roughly 11 km into the alpine in about 30 minutes. Once at the lake, your guide is exclusively yours: an ACMG-certified hiking guide leads a private hike suited to your group — for example, the Opabin Plateau Circuit, climbing through a hanging valley to Opabin Lake and the Opabin Prospect viewpoint overlooking Lake O'Hara, with a stop along the way for your gourmet trail lunch, before returning via the East Opabin Trail to meet the shuttle back. Your guide, who also holds Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, adjusts the pace and route as the day unfolds, drawing on a wider network of trails — from gentle lakeside walks to advanced routes like Lake Oesa, Wiwaxy Gap and Huber Ledges, Lake McArthur, and All Souls Prospect — depending on your group's fitness and interests.
Groups are capped at five people for a personal, unhurried experience with your guide. We handle your shuttle bus reservation, all group safety gear (trekking poles, microspikes as needed), a gourmet farm-table lunch and premium snacks, and full satellite/VHF emergency communication equipment. Suitable for first-time visitors and experienced hikers alike.
