Discover the Cajón del Maipo through a warm and intimate experience: a tour designed for those seeking nature, history, and tradition in a single itinerary. We will set off from the enchanting Plaza de San José de Maipo, the heart of the town, where you will discover its hidden corners, its architecture, and the little stories that make it unique.
After the square, we will head to the Chocolate House to experience unique local flavors amidst distinctive architecture, a cozy space where the architecture and design create an intimate atmosphere; there, you will learn about the history of the place.
We will continue on to the impressive granite formations of Puente Cristo, landscapes that seem sculpted by time. Here, we will take a short walk to appreciate the textures of the rock, the views of the river, and photo opportunities. We will continue on to the village of El Volcán, with its authentic character and stories of shepherds, miners, and mountain dwellers; you will learn about how life is organized at high altitude, as well as the local trades and traditions.
After a morning of exploration among the Estratos de Lo Valdés—ancient seabeds now elevated to an altitude of 2,500 meters—our route will take us to a mountain lodge that is a living legend of Chilean mountaineering.
We will stop at the iconic Refugio Alemán, an architectural gem made of stone and wood that seems to emerge from the mountain itself. Here, time comes to a standstill. As we step inside, we are greeted by the scent of firewood and the warmth of a lounge that has welcomed explorers for nearly a century.
