Tromsø: Whale Watching Safari on High-Speed Catamaran｜Norway

From mid-October to the end of January, humpbacks and orcas follow the herring into the fjords near Tromsø. This tour goes out to meet them on a fast, modern catamaran, with expert guides and free coffee and tea on board.

As we cruise to the whale location, you are treated to stunning views of the Lyngen Alps and a captivating, scenic voyage. Our knowledgeable guides offer insightful information about the whales and local history, ensuring a fun and educational experience. Relax in our spacious lounge, fitted with panoramic windows and watch the ocean wonders unfold.

Our Departures
08:30: running from 23.10.2026 until 31.01.2027 and conducted in both English and German
09:00: running from 01.12.2026 until 31.01.2027 and conducted in both English and Italian

Our Boats
MS Rygerdronningen (08:30): a large, stable catamaran that copes well with rough water and reaches close to 20 knots.
MS Rygertroll (09:00): slightly smaller vessel but travelling at higher speed.

Both have several outdoor viewing decks, an indoor lounge with panoramic windows, a kiosk offering snacks and drinks, free wifi, charging points and toilets.

Check-In
48h prior to your departure, you will receive an email asking you to register some personal details, needed for the Maritime Authorities. Please ensure that you complete this step ahead of arriving at the boat to avoid delays during the check-in.

Meeting Point
Both boats are docked at the harbour behind the Nerstranda Shopping Center. Please meet at the boat 20min ahead of the departure and have the QR code sent the day prior ready for scanning.

No Whale Sightings?
If none are seen on your tour, you can book a second tour free of charge at the Destination Tromsø Booking Point. This is subject to available places and applies to the winter 2026/27 season only. If this is applicable, the guides on board will give you further information.

The operator follows Visit Tromsø's whale watching guidelines and the AECO guidelines for cetaceans, and is certified by the Eco-Lighthouse Foundation for environmentally responsible tourism.
