Starting in Grindelwald, this beautiful alpine hike leads us steadily upward through forest trails and alpine pastures into one of the most spectacular mountain landscapes in the Bernese Oberland.
As we gain elevation, the views keep expanding and the surrounding peaks become more and more impressive. Higher up, the landscape opens into wide alpine terrain with rocky slopes, meadows, and dramatic mountain scenery all around us.
Soon we reach First, a famous viewpoint high above Grindelwald. The area is also home to the well-known First Cliff Walk, a dramatic steel walkway attached to the rock face that offers incredible views down into the valley below.
At First there is also a mountain restaurant, making it a perfect place to take a break and enjoy the scenery.
Depending on conditions, pace, and how adventurous we want the day to be, we can continue through the alpine landscape toward Bachalpsee, one of the most iconic mountain lakes in Switzerland. The lake is famous for reflecting the surrounding peaks — especially the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau — creating one of the most beautiful alpine panoramas in the region.
Throughout the hike, the scenery keeps changing. Glaciers, high ridges, rocky slopes, and wide alpine meadows make this one of the most rewarding hiking areas in the Jungfrau region.
Since this is a private hike, the route remains flexible and can easily be adapted to your pace, the weather, and the overall conditions. There is also a gondola between Grindelwald and First, which can be used for part of the route or for the descent if preferred.
