Your experience begins at the France Tourisme Agency, just a 3-minute walk from the Louvre. Here you’ll meet your guide, receive your pre-booked timed ticket, and hear a short introduction to the history of the museum and the former royal palace. Walking together to the group entrance lane, you’ll avoid the ticket-purchase lines (security checks still apply) and step straight into the heart of the Louvre.
Inside, your guide will lead you along a thoughtfully designed route that balances the museum’s must-see icons with key context, without trying to cover every room. You’ll start in the collections of Greek and Roman antiquities, where the celebrated Venus de Milo and other classical sculptures illustrate the origins of Western ideals of beauty and proportion.
Climbing the grand staircase, you’ll encounter the Winged Victory of Samothrace, dramatically placed at the top as if arriving by ship. Your guide will explain how this ancient sculpture was discovered and why it remains one of the most striking pieces in the museum. The tour continues into the Italian Renaissance galleries for the moment everyone is waiting for: Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
Thanks to the small-group format, your guide can help you navigate the crowds and find a good vantage point while explaining the painting’s many mysteries from the sfumato technique to the famous smile that has fascinated viewers for centuries. Nearby, you’ll see other masterpieces by Italian masters that help situate the Mona Lisa in its artistic context. From there, you’ll move to key rooms of French painting and large-scale historical canvases that show the power of kings, emperors, and revolutions. Depending on the day and gallery access, your guide may focus on emblematic works of Neoclassicism and Romanticism, showing how artists used drama, color, and composition to tell powerful stories.
Throughout the visit, your guide will share anecdotes, symbolic details, and practical tips to help you appreciate the Louvre without feeling lost or overwhelmed.
The guided tour lasts around two hours and ends inside the museum. You then have free time to explore after the guided tour within the same wing of the building.
