Seven great stops await in some of the most iconic villages of the Cotswolds. We’ll enjoy lunch right in the heart of this area of outstanding natural beauty, where we’ll see the oldest pub in England and the charming “hobbit door” of the local church.

Our journey takes us to Cirencester, the “capital” of the Cotswolds, home to the impressive wool church of St. John the Baptist with the largest porch in England. Nearby Bibury is famed for Arlington Row, a line of 14th-century weavers’ cottages. Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the “Venice of the Cotswolds,” is one of the most popular spots, offering attractions like a perfumery, vintage car museum, and a model village. Many visitors also enjoy the peaceful charm of Lower Slaughter with its Victorian watermill. Passing through Upper Slaughter and Lower Swell, we arrive at Stow-on-the-Wold, “where the wind blows cold,” a perfect lunch stop where we can explore the churchyard and perhaps enjoy a pint in the oldest pub in England.

In the afternoon, we head to Burford to discover the origin of the phrase “Any old Tom, Dick or Harry.” The 15th-century tollhouse here features a quaint museum showcasing traditional building skills, while the nearby church still bears the scars of the English Civil War and is surrounded by the graves of wool merchants.

Our grand finale is a visit to the ruins of a 15th-century manor house with a dark tale, set among the picturesque thatched cottages of Minster Lovell, before we bid farewell to the Cotswolds and return to London.
