Heredia Cantinas Sightseeing Tour: History and Food with a Historian｜Costa Rica

Discover Heredia from a different perspective: through its historic bars, its cuisine, and the stories of the people who made these spaces part of everyday life in the city.

Accompanied by a Costa Rican historian and teacher, you'll tour the center of Heredia while learning how the old bars, markets, and food establishments functioned as places for meeting, conversation, and the development of popular culture.

During the tour, you'll get to know some of the city's traditional spaces and discover the stories behind them. We'll talk about the evolution of bars and the old cantinas, the famous "bocas" (small portions of food that traditionally accompany drinks in Costa Rican bars), the customs of the people of Heredia, and the relationship between food, drink, and social life.

The experience also includes various food tastings and traditional drinks. Each flavor will be an opportunity to learn about an aspect of Costa Rican history and culture.

We'll visit places related to local gastronomy, and you'll learn about products, preparations, and customs that have been part of the daily diet of generations of Costa Ricans.
