Along 250 kilometers north of Bariloche, you can see the most extraordinary landscapes in Patagonia. On Route 237 heading to Neuquén, crossing the Lake Nahuel Huapi bridge, and next to the source of the Limay River, is the historic place where Perito Moreno arrived on January 22, 1876. He was the first Argentine to see the great Lake Nahuel Huapi, also called "Gran Olla" by the natives. The route continues along the Limay River until reaching the great Amphitheater, a natural formation of glacial origin that resembles a Roman Circus. On the same route, further ahead, is the Valle Encantado with its immense and bizarre rock formations that surround Confluencia. There, the Limay River joins the Traful River, and if we turn west, we'll reach Villa Traful. This is a small mountain village surrounded by a wonderful landscape. The Mirador del Lago Traful vantage point offers a superb view of the surroundings. The road to these places shows a transition between the steppe and the forest. You can see caves, some Patagonian ranches, and also the local flora and fauna. If the journey begins in the morning, the arrival in Villa Traful offers the opportunity for lunch and to continue the tour with a visit to Puerto Arrayán and El Portezuelo. Finally, the section of the Seven Lake Route that takes us to Villa La Angostura is the option for returning to Bariloche.
