Ushuaia: Esmeralda Lagoon Trekking Tour with Lunch at a Mountain Dome｜Argentina

The adventure begins as we take National Route 3 northward, leaving Ushuaia behind with the majestic Mounts Olivia and Cinco Hermanos dominating the horizon. Upon arriving in the Tierra Mayor Valley, we will prepare to begin a 5-kilometer (10-kilometer round-trip) hike to one of the most breathtaking landscapes in Tierra del Fuego: Emerald Lagoon.

After a safety briefing and instructions on using crampons and trekking poles, we will begin our trek, crossing glacial valleys and sub-Antarctic forests steeped in history. We will walk along trails once used by early loggers, now inhabited by beavers that have transformed the landscape with their dams. The route features a combination of wet terrain, forests, peat bogs, and gentle slopes, all surrounded by an unspoiled natural environment.

The turquoise color of Esmeralda Lagoon, which owes its hue to the presence of glacial sediments, appears as a reward for our efforts. At this time of year, we circle the lagoon, trekking among rocks, streams, and ice until we reach a warm and cozy dome-style shelter surrounded by nature.

There, a well-deserved break by the fire awaits us, where we enjoy a hot mountain stew, relaxed conversation, and a spirit of camaraderie among adventurers. Before heading back, we enjoy a comforting hot coffee while gazing at the pristine Fuegian landscape, recharging our energy and taking away unique memories of the world's south.
