Starting from Ushuaia, we take National Route No. 3, which will accompany us for almost the entire tour of the park. Our first stop will be the Cañadón del Toro, where we'll see different landscapes characteristic of Tierra del Fuego, such as the huge peat bogs and the so-called "tree cemetery," forests cut down during the prison era that silently tell us the story of Ushuaia's origins as a penal colony. In this area, we'll also take a walk along the Pipo River, and we'll cross the centuries-old forests to reach a small waterfall that forms in the river.
We continue the walk to Ensenada Zaratiegui Bay to appreciate the combination of environments that makes this national park unique: "the Andes, the forest, and the sea merge in one place." The famous End of the World Post Office is also there, where, if it's open, you can get your passport stamped or send a postcard from the end of the continent. From here, we'll start another incredible trail that takes us along the coast of the Beagle Channel through a Guindo forest with access to beautiful beaches with unique colors.
We continue our journey towards the Lapataia River to walk upstream to its source at the Acigami (Roca) glacial lake, one of the most unforgettable postcard views in Tierra del Fuego.
Finally, we will reach the Lapataia Bay area, where we will combine different short trails to visit and learn about the environments impacted by the beaver, reach vantage points with unique views, and finally finish the walk in Lapataia Bay, "literally the end of America." There lies the last kilometer of the Pan-American Highway (and Route No. 3) that runs from Alaska to the southern tip in this national park.
