Do you like listening to real-life stories that are stranger than fiction? Then Recoleta, the first boulevard catering to the Super Wealthy, inaugurated in the late XIXth century, is the place for you! And also, this tour lasts four hours with a break in the middle, so you get great value!
We'll start in Recoleta, talk a bit about the history of the place, see Palace de Glace and talk about it being the playground for the wealthy (with really interesting stories) and later on, the venue that made Tango what it is today.
Then we'll visit Iglesia del Pilar, one of the oldest churches in Buenos Aires, with its rich baroque altarpieces and talk a bit about the mystery man behind it, as well as some of the relics inside.
We'll be ending this segment in the Recoleta cemetery, with a guided tour. Recoleta is the most important cemetery in Buenos Aires where people such as Evita Perón, the Alvear and the Ortiz Basualdo are buried. It also has some very interesting lore and tales that you'll get to discover. The folks buried in Recoleta are interesting in the sense that they were contemporaries, moved in the same circles, most of them knew one another or had heard of one another. Even sworn enemies are buried almost side by side.
Recoleta is also home to the largest open-air museum in the world, boasting beautiful sculptures. It truly is one of a kind.
Then we'll walk Avenida Alvear, appreciating the luxury of the French Beaux Art palaces and their colorful stories. Alvear is one of the most beautiful and wealthy avenues in Buenos Aires filled with stories of love, deceit, treachery and heroism. We know them all!
We'll be visiting Pellegrini square and talking about the history of the palaces surrounding it as well as the Jockey club.
Finally, we'll cross the longest avenue in the world (second longest) and head on over to Arroyo Street, one of the loveliest streets in Buenos Aires alongside Alvear, filled with coffee shops, one of the best 50 bars in the world and art galleries.
Then we'll head on out to Plaza San Martín to catch a glimpse of the Train Station and the Kavanaugh Building with its fascinating and gossipy story! We’ll also talk about the Plaza San Martín and the palaces surrounding it.
This is where the tour ends and you can catch something to eat and drink on Florida Avenue. Or we'll point you back in the direction of your hotel.
