In the morning, meet your driver guide at your hotel in Dushanbe. Begin a scenic 4-hour drive to Penjikent, followed by another 80 km journey toward the Seven Lakes, located in the western Fann Mountains. Each lake displays its own unique colour, ranging from calming turquoise to deep, mesmerising purple. Reaching the upper lakes requires some light to moderate hiking, rewarding you with increasingly spectacular views along the way (Hiking is required from Lake 6 to Lake 7)
Enjoy a picnic lunch at the final lake, Hazorchashma. After visiting the Seven Lakes, return to Penjikent for overnight.
Next morning visit the Rudaki Museum (Penjikent is the birthplace of Abu Abdullah Rudaki, widely regarded as the father of Persian poetry), as well as the local bazaar (market) and a mosque. Continue exploring ancient Penjikent—the ruins of a town founded by the Sogdians in the 5th century and later abandoned by the Arabs in the 8th century. You can still see the foundations of houses, a citadel with Zoroastrian fire temples, and remnants of the old city bazaar.
After exploring Penjikent, go for an optional tour to Iskanderkul Lake or return to Dushanbe/Samarkand directly.
If you prefer to return to Dushanbe or go to Samarkand after the end of tour in one day, you might need to skip some attraction spots in the itinerary.
