From Skopje: Matka Canyon, Tetovo and Leshok Monastery｜North Macedonia

Discover the soul of western Macedonia on a day filled with nature, culture, and timeless charm. ✨
Begin at Matka Canyon, where dramatic cliffs, emerald waters, and peaceful monasteries create one of the most breathtaking landscapes near Skopje.

Continue to Tetovo, home to the extraordinary Painted Mosque (Šarena Džamija), originally built in the 15th century and rebuilt in the 19th century. Unlike any other mosque in the region, it is richly decorated with colorful floral and geometric motifs, reflecting the artistic spirit and multicultural heritage of Tetovo. A walk through the lively Old Bazaar reveals traditional crafts, local flavors, and the rhythm of everyday life.

The journey concludes at the tranquil Leshok Monastery, founded in the 14th century and later renewed in the 19th century. Dedicated to Saints Athanasius and Cyril and Methodius, the monastery has long been a spiritual and cultural center, closely connected with education and the Macedonian revival movement. Surrounded by gardens and mountain views, it offers a peaceful and inspiring finale to the day.
