상품 설명

The experience begins with an in-depth educational lecture delivered by a professional Iraqi archaeologist, introducing participants to the Kassite civilization, one of the longest-ruling dynasties in Mesopotamian history. The Kassites governed Babylonia for nearly four centuries (ca. 1600–1155 BCE), a period marked by political stability, territorial reorganization, and major architectural projects.

Central to this lecture is the foundation of Dur-Kurigalzu, the royal city established in the 14th century BCE by Kurigalzu I, one of the most prominent Kassite rulers. The city was conceived as both a political capital and a religious center, strategically located near the Tigris–Euphrates corridor to assert Kassite authority over central Mesopotamia while maintaining continuity with Babylonian religious traditions.

At the heart of Dur-Kurigalzu stands the monumental Ziggurat of Aqar Quf, one of the best-preserved ziggurats in Iraq today. Constructed primarily of mudbrick with fired brick reinforcements, the ziggurat originally rose in a stepped, terraced form and was dedicated to the chief god Enlil, reflecting the Kassites’ deliberate adoption of traditional Mesopotamian theology to legitimize their rule. Its massive core, still towering above the surrounding plain, demonstrates advanced engineering techniques, including deep foundations, bitumen mortar, and a sophisticated system to protect against erosion.

Following the lecture, participants take part in a guided walking tour around the ziggurat and its surrounding archaeological remains. The guide explains the architectural layout of the sacred precinct, the orientation of the monument, and its ritual function as a symbolic bridge between the earthly realm and the divine. Attention is given to construction methods, surviving cuneiform inscriptions, and the broader urban plan of Dur-Kurigalzu, which included palaces, administrative buildings, and residential quarters.

The experience concludes with a traditional Iraqi lunch in a relaxed setting, offering participants time to reflect, ask questions, and engage in open discussion with the archaeologist. This final segment emphasizes cultural continuity, connecting ancient Mesopotamian heritage with modern Iraqi traditions, and allows for deeper appreciation of the Kassite legacy and the enduring significance of Aqar Quf in the history of human civilization.
