Bengal was once home to Portuguese, Dutch, French, Danish and the British, and a centre for trade and commerce. These communities left an amalgam of European and Bengali cultures, which is what Let Us Go opens up to discerning travellers and history freaks. Known for their amazing guided city tours, Let Us Go will take you on a day trip to Bandel, Chinsurah, Chandannagar and Serampore so you can learn more about what Bengal is about Once known as Frederiknagore when the Danish were around, Serampore has beautiful spots like Serampore College, William Carey Museum, St Olave’s Church and the Danish Tavern that take you back to that era. Meanwhile, Dutch legacy stands out prominently in Chinsurah, where you should explore Armenian Church, Old Dutch Fort and Dutch cemetery. You will also visit Mohsin College and the Hooghly Imambara.
No trip in and around Hooghly is complete without a visit to The Basilica of the Holy Rosary, or Bandel Church. A famous monument of the state, the minor basilica built by the Portuguese is stunning with its altars, tombstones, pipe organ and shrine to Mary. If French culture has a special place in your heart, Chandannagar is your getaway. Take a walk along the kilometre-long Chandannagar Strand or lose yourself in the beauty of Sacred Heart Church.
