What do you know about Italy’s involvement in World War II? Join this original history tour to travel back in time to June 10, 1940, the day Italy entered the war. Learn about Benito Mussolini, Italian fascists, Axis Powers, the Civil War, post-war reconstruction, and more. Discover the living memory of WWII in Florence.

This 2-hour walking tour is a must-do for history buffs interested in the history of Italy in the years 1940–1945. We will tell you the full story of the country's involvement in WWII, introducing you to important events and characters like Benito Mussolini. You will learn about the spread of fascism in Italy, the invasions of France, North and East Africa, the Mediterranean, the Balkans, and their aftermath. The guide will share interesting facts about the relationship between Mussolini and Hitler, and also explain how Italy, a member of the Axis Powers, surrendered to Allied Forces.

Places of interest include the Holocaust Deportation Memorial at the train station, which commemorates the people deported to Nazi concentration camps. You will pass the landmark Basilica of Santa Maria Novella and head to the picturesque Ponte Vecchio, which was the only bridge not destroyed by German mines in 1944. Walk through the streets that were the most damaged by the war and see the Pitti Palace, where the people of Florence took refuge when the city was bombed.
