Begin your day at the Almonda Spring, where clear water bursts out at the base of the limestone ridge. Learn how rainwater disappears into limestone, travels through fractures and conduits, and resurges as a powerful spring.

Next, interpret the Almonda cave system as both a natural archive (water, minerals, underground biodiversity) and a cultural archive (prehistoric and historic occupation). Discover why this area is so important for Iberian Paleolithic research (including the Gruta da Oliveira).

Then, enjoy a scenic drive to the Zêzere “Blue Lake,” a beautiful transition from karst headwaters to a wide, lake-like river landscape shaped by the Castelo do Bode reservoir.

Relax and swim at Praia Fluvial do Alqueidão, on the edges of the Castelo do Bode reservoir, known for its clear Zêzere waters and summer facilities.

Finish with the big picture: dam engineering, hydroelectricity, flood control, and how Castelo do Bode became a key drinking-water origin for the Lisbon region through EPAL’s system.
