This full-day journey through the Rethymno countryside is designed for photographers and explorers alike, blending untouched villages, Byzantine history, dramatic gorges and the turquoise waters of the Libyan Sea into one unforgettable route.

Your adventure begins with pick up from your selected location in the Rethymno area by mini bus. From there, we head into the countryside, making frequent photo stops along the way.

Our first stop is Argyroupolis, famous for its cascading waterfalls and its history as the site of Ancient Lappa. We then continue to Miriokefala, home to the Monastery of Panagia Antiphonetria, founded around 1200. Its surviving 11th century cruciform church holds a revered miraculous icon and multi layered Byzantine frescoes.

From here, the road climbs to the Kalikratis plateau, an off the beaten path spot at 700 meters above sea level that is popular with hikers and cyclists. Passing through the mountain village of Asfendou at 770 meters, we reach the entrance of Imbros Gorge, Crete's second most famous gorge after Samaria.

Heading south, we make brief stops to admire sweeping panoramic views before arriving at Frangokastello, a 14th century Venetian fortress tied to the legend of the Drosoulites. Nearby, a beautiful beach on the Libyan Sea awaits, where you'll have about 2.5 hours of free time to swim, relax and recharge, or sample homemade dishes at a local family tavern (optional, additional charge).

On the way back to Rethymno, we stop at Kourtaliotiko Gorge, a striking 2.5 kilometer canyon framed by cliffs up to 600 meters high. Here you can walk toward the riverbed and enjoy over an hour exploring the rushing river, hidden springs and the gorge's famous waterfall, a fitting finale for your camera.

After a full day of culture, history, nature and relaxation, we begin the return journey to Rethymno.
