Venture into one of central Evia’s most enchanting natural corridors: beginning in the shady woods of the village of Stropones, traverse the lush course of the Stroponiatis River through Stropones Gorge, and emerge at the sparkling turquoise waters of the Aegean at Chiliadou Beach.
What the experience offers
Start amid the cool, green canopy of Stropones: firs, oaks and chestnut trees frame the village-exit point, giving way shortly to the river gorge.
Enter the gorge and follow the riverbed — you’ll cross the stream multiple times, switch banks, and let the sound of water, birds and rustling leaves be your companion.
After about 2–3 hours in the gorge, the terrain opens onto a rural road shaded by plane, cherry and walnut trees, as the trail leads you gently outwards.
The grand finale: stepping onto Chiliadou Beach, where the cool mountain waters meet the sea, and the walk ends with the option to swim, rest and soak in the Aegean panorama.
Why this route stands out
It’s a true forest-to-sea journey: from mountain village and gorge to seaside serenity.
The terrain is varied and immersive — riverbed, forest canopy, rural road, beach — so you feel a progression rather than just “another walk”.
Especially in the warmer months, the gorge offers shade and coolness, and arriving at the beach feels like a reward.
It’s ideal for those who love nature, want moderate effort and a memorable endpoint.
