Explore the Peloponnese on a 2-day tour from Athens. Visit the Corinth Canal, the Nemea region, the city of Sparta, the castle of Mystras, the city of Mani, the town of Areopolis, and the town of Gytheio. Spend the night in Sparta (accommodation not included).
Day 1: Athens - Corinth Canal - Nemea - Sparta Depart from Athens and stop at the Corinth Canal for a quick photo stop. Continue to the Nemea region and visit a winery to taste local wines. Continue to the city of Ancient Sparta, the city of King Leonidas. Explore the magnificent castle of Mystras, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the top of the hill, descend the narrow corridors and narrow streets of this amazing castle city and visit the Byzantine churches, the palace of Palaiologos, the last dynasty of Byzantine emperors. Visit the city of Sparta, the Evrotas River, the Leonidas Statue, and the Olive Oil Museum. Enjoy lunch at a local tavern in the city of Sparta. Spend the night in the city.
Day 2: Sparta - Mani - Areopolis - Gytheio - Monemvasia After breakfast, visit Monemvasia, founded by the Byzantines in the sixth century. Explore this mystical stone-built settlement, nestled on the edge of a large rock by the sea, and immerse yourself in a unique medieval atmosphere. Continue to the Areopolis area, nestled at the foot of the Sayas Mountains on the west coast of the Mani peninsula. Stop for dinner at a traditional tavern and continue to Gytheio, a charming seaside town in the Peloponnese region of Greece and after that we will return to Athens.
