Experience the National Mall Like Never Before! Skip the early morning lines and the hassle of snagging same-day tickets - our small-group walking tour includes guaranteed entry to the top of the Washington Monument (daytime option) or Lincoln Memorial Undercroft (evening option)
The National Mall changes character with the light. Some memorials ask for a clear blue sky and a long view down the Reflecting Pool. Others come alive at night, when the crowds thin out and the marble glows. That is why we run two versions of this walk, and why so many of our guests take both.
The daytime tour
Start at the Lincoln Memorial and climb the steps where Martin Luther King Jr. stood in 1963. From there we walk the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, tracing the names down into the earth and back out again, then on to the World War II Memorial and the fountains at its center. We finish near the White House with the stories of the families who have lived there. Your guide will hand you tickets to ride to the top of the Washington Monument, an entrance included only on this tour, for the best view in Washington of the city you have just walked through.
The evening tour
We meet as the sun drops and the lights come on. At the Lincoln Memorial you go somewhere most visitors never do, into the undercroft below the chamber, where the original construction and graffiti from the workers who built it are still in place. This entrance is included only on the evening tour. We then follow the Tidal Basin to the Korean War Veterans Memorial, where the soldiers take on a life of their own after dark, past the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and back to the World War II Memorial reflected in still water.
Take both
The two tours share only the Lincoln Memorial, and even that feels like a different place from one to the next. Book the daytime walk for the Washington Monument and the White House. Book the evening walk for the undercroft and the memorials that were designed with night in mind. Together they cover the whole Mall at the hour each site was meant to be seen.
